About The Strictly Coffee Company
Strictly Coffee has been an icon on the Dunedin coffee scene for over 17 years. From the original roastery situated just off the Octagon on Bath St, our company has come from its humble beginnings as a cosy café and roastery that only the true coffee lovers found, to now having a national distribution to Cafés and homes baristas alike. With our original roaster still in Bath St, we expanded by developing a Headquarters in Frederick St to organise our main roasting supply and distribution, with a new roaster installed in 2014 to keep up with the Strictly Coffee demand.
We are often referred to as ‘Dunedin’s Boutique Coffee Roasting Company’. Specialising in buying, roasting, blending and supplying only the highest quality of beans with the goal to produce and provide our customers with the best espresso blends on the market. We also roast and blend Organic Fair Trade beans using the same criteria of excellence as our house blend and provide a delicious decaf option for those who need their coffee fix without the caffeine.
Currently, we supply coffee to approximately 500 cafes and restaurants throughout Otago, Southland, West Coast and South Canterbury, and we continue to make our mark on the rest of the South Island. We offer a comprehensive coffee machine service with specialist staff and technicians employed directly on our team and operating out of our warehouse or coming to you. We are able to supply a range of new and second hand coffee machines, grinders, and other coffee accessories.
A Bit About Bath St
Strictly Coffee has always been a roastery and the focus is coffee not food. With that being said, the quality of food on offer is often above the standard café fare, with all food made on the Bath St premises. Our Bath St location looks tiny from the outside but once inside it is positively spacious. That cosy feeling contributes to a great atmosphere that incorporates three separate areas and an amazing open courtyard filled with native plants and containing a mural by one of New Zealand’s leading graffiti artists. The building is approximately 110 years old and a former stamp-maker’s premises where they could look out the long window over what was at the time paddocks, while they worked. The building has evolved over time to a solid piece of contemporary history in the making.
Approximately 90% of Bath St customers are local return business that comes through the door every day of the week. The rest have either stumbled off course, been drawn in by spiffy reviews or are aficionados from out of town.
Strictly Coffee HQ, Roastery, Cafe and Warehouse
Situated close to the University and stadium, these modern and spacious premises were recently developed to cope with an ever expanding and growing business. This site houses our main roasting operation, warehouse storage, extensive coffee machine workshop, head office/administration, and a trendy retro takeaway cafe, called appropriately, ‘HQ’. The cafe has been designed to facilitate training for the staff of our wholesale clients.

Strictly Coffee Success
The goals and objectives that our company strive for is to produce and supply coffee of an exceptionally high standard.
A significant accomplishment that the company has made over the years is the growth of the distribution of coffee beans around New Zealand. So much so, that in 2014 we had to commission a new and bigger coffee roaster. The sourcing, importation, renovation and installation of this took up a large part of 2014. Now still, we have a Petroncini hot air drum roaster at our HQ.
Evidence of the quality and success of Strictly Coffee lies within awards we have won over the years which include:
- Bronze medal in the NZ Roasting and cupping awards 2014
- Winner of Otago – Southland Top Shop Food and beverage award (Bath St)
- Runner-up for the overall Top Shop Award 2014
- Runner up in Online retailer 2014
- Bronze Medal in the Australian International Coffee Awards 2015
We attribute these great achievements to our constant strive for quality in all aspects of our business. Our staff, service, product, and systems have set the bar very high and because of this we will never compromise on quality making it easy to be proud of what we do.
We are very proud to be based in Dunedin and taking our brand of espresso throughout the South Island.
